Using the Sudowrite Mobile App
Overview
The Sudowrite mobile app is an AI-powered writing assistant available for both iOS and Android devices. It serves as a companion app to the full web app at sudowrite.com, allowing you to take your work on the go, maintain momentum, and capture fresh ideas wherever you are.

Mobile vs. Web App
Philosophy
While the mobile app was originally intended to be a companion app to the full web app, it can be used exclusively if desired. The key principle: if you have a full keyboard at a desk, you have more options and features available via the web app. For everything else (walks, trains, capturing ideas on the go), use the mobile app.
Feature Differences
Web App:
- Full suite of features, including Story Bibleβs generation tools
- 4-5 different paths to accomplish most tasks
- Access to the entire Plugins ecosystem
- Document History and (Project and Document) Trash access
Mobile App:
- Streamlined, simplified interface
- Typically 2 ways to accomplish tasks (use the feature or ask chat)
- Four core features: Write, Rewrite, Chat, and Smart Dictation
- Story Bible accessβgenerations limited to the Chat workflow
- No Trash or Document History access (must use web to recover deleted items)
The Mobile Appβs Core Features
The Sudowrite app features four powerful features: Write, Rewrite, Smart Dictation, and Chat. Hereβs an overview of those four features.
Smart Dictation
Smart Dictation is a unique mobile feature that captures your spoken words and transforms them into properly formatted prose with punctuation, dialogue formatting, and character name recognition.
How to Use Smart Dictation
From the Home Screen or Document List in a Project:
- Tap the sparkly microphone icon in the bottom right corner of the screen
- Speak your content
- Tap stop when finished
- The app will process and format your dictation, displaying it in a popup when done

- The formatted text will be inserted at your cursor position
Whether you dictate in or outside of a project/document, all Smart Dictations are stored in the Smart Dictation history, available via the home pageβs left bar menu.
Smart Dictation Features
- Intelligent Formatting: Automatically adds punctuation and proper dialogue formatting
- Context Awareness: Recognizes character names from your story
- History: All dictations are saved until deleted in your Smart Dictations menu
- Time Limit: Up to 5 minutes per dictation
Enhanced Dictations
Transform your Smart Dictations into fully fleshed-out prose with Dictation Enhancement.
